Akmeniné 2016

£33.00

A Wine That

is all about the mineral side of Sauvignon, without shying away from its body. Think candied lemon peel and wet stones—serious, yet fun, like all the best musicals.

Where and How?

Akmèniné: “Made of Stones” — this is Sauvignon Blanc from 30-year-old vines in Verdigny, planted on clay-limestone.
Picked with 30% Botrytis affected grapes. After pressing, grapes are aged for two years in tanks, then an extra year in large old foudres before bottling. Unfined, unfiltered and without added sulphites.

The Winemaker: Sebastien Riffault

Sébastien Riffault is one of those rare people who aren't afraid of going completely against the grain. In a region that's known for its strict, technologically-made wines, Sébastien decided that wouldn't work for him. Having been inspired by tasting natural wines, early on he ditched the sulphites, switched to biodynamic farming and decided to embrace riper fruit. The results are deep and soulful expressions of Sauvignon.
