Bourgueil Dilettante 2020

A Wine That

should be on tap in our kitchen. From a region that used to be known for denser red wines, this is a juicy, lighter take on Cabernet Franc - think alcoholic blackcurrant juice, but a little more serious. You can't go wrong.

Cabernet Franc

Where and How?

This is biodynamically farmed Cabernet Franc from the Bourgeuil appellation in the Loire.
Since 2002, this has been made in the carbonic maceration style. Back in the 90s, it was hard to get optimal ripeness, but with climate change, it's become easier to get riper fruit, hence the stems have also been riper to do whole bunch maceration. It was macerated for ten days in tank, after which it's aged in old barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The Winemaker: Catherine & Pierre Breton

When a bottle of Breton appears on the table in natural wine circles, everyone leans back and smiles. These are some of the most comforting and enjoyable wines out there. Their emblematic cuvée, La Dilettante, achieves many of the aspects we all dream about in a bottle of wine: namely drinkability (or scrap that, glugability) and fun.
