Mondeuse Saint Jean de la Porte 2018

A Wine That

comes from one of the leading young growers of the region who is (re)making a name for the ancient variety, Mondeuse; the grandparent of Syrah. Think earthy, savoury, black pepper, but with a bright mouthwatering acidity. Yes please.

Red Clay

Where and How?

This comes from organically farmed Mondeuse vines lanted on limestone and red clay.
The grapes are macerated as whole bunches for 15 days, with very gentle extraction, and the juice ferments naturally. The wine is then aged in stainless steel and bottled unfined and unfiltered, with just a touch of sulphites.

The Winemaker: Cellier de la Baraterie

Julien grew up in the Savoie, which aside from its famous ski resorts, is also a key agricultural region of France. Although he didn’t inherit any family vineyards, early on he became smitten with the idea of making wine, and was fortunate to find some vineyards in the village of Cruet.
It’s not only breathtakingly beautiful; the area is also recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Indeed, his village dates back to the 14th century. With this in mind, combined with his personal gardening hobby, he decided from the get-go that he would work organically. His wines taste every bit as pure as the scenic mountains they come from.
