Engel Auf Erden Pink Maceration 2019
A Wine That
blends the idea of a skin-contact wine and a rosé. Christian calls this 'Pink Maceration' using a beautiful patch of Cabernet Franc usually used for his signature 'Himmel Auf Erden Rosé'. It is a darker, more mysterious version almost leaning into light red wine territory. Think blood orange negroni with a slice of lime.

Where and How?
'Engel Auf Erden – Pink Maceration‘ is a special barrel of pure Cabernet Franc that Christian first made in 2019.
The grapes come from his vineyards in the village of Purbach, located on the North-West side of Lake Neusiedlersee formed by calcareous sediments and schist. Like with many of his vineyards Christian uses a special double-plantation system allowing for longer ripening phases allowing for greater complexity without moderate alcohol levels.
The grapes are briefly macerated and pressed gently before being transferred into one large, used Austrian oak barrel. The wine is aged for a minimum of 10 months and bottled unfined, unfiltered without the addition of sulphur.
The Winemaker: Christian Tschida
Christian Tschida is one of a kind. He might be renowned as one of the world's most cult natural winemakers, but when it comes down to it, he'd prefer not to talk about wine at all — rather art. For that's how to describe Christian's wines — these are playful-yet-serious interpretations of what Mother Nature gives him. His grapes are like watercolour, acrylic and graffiti interchanged from year to year.
