Cuvée Speciale 2017
A Wine That
shows the lighter side of the southern Rhône, while keeping all the complexity the region's great wines are known for. Think the earthiness and meatiness of southern Syrah blended with the featherlight, bright red fruit of Grenache... this is elegance bottled while retaining that southern French soul we all crave.

Where and How?
This is the later bottling of this couple's first vintage (just 1000 bottles; a very rare find). The Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%) grapes were destemmed, and left to macerate in a sealed tank. After being pressed, the wine was aged for 20 months in old oak barrels. The wine was then bottled unfined, unfiltered and with no added sulfites.
The Winemaker: Domaine Houillon
What happens when the world of an academic (a translator of ancient Ethiopian manuscripts, no less) turned draft horse trainer collides with the trainee of one of the most incredible natural winemakers we’ve ever seen? Well, that’s Charlotte & Aurélien Houillon’s story, and their wines are as magical as you’d expect. They settled in the Faucon, Vaucluse, far away from where they met (Switzerland) because they fell in love with a property: one with its own ecosystem and old vines. There, they combine their biodynamic know-how with Jura natural winemaking techniques to create unparalleled wines of the southern Rhône.
