Where and How?
This is from beautiful organically farmed old vines (80+-year-old) in Séguret, in the southern Rhône Valley. More specifically, 55% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 13% Counoise, 7% Carignan and 5% Syrah.
One of the flagship cuvées of this domaine, it's named Les Levants as these are the vines that get the morning sun. The wine was fermented naturally with whole bunches, and aged in old oak barrels. Bottled unfined and ulfiltered, with low sulphites.
Jean-Luc David recently took over the reins from his stepfather, Jean David, who has quietly been pioneering organic viticulture in this neck of the woods for decades.
In an area where unfortunately many vineyards are still blasted with herbicides, the vineyards here are an oasis - surrounded on one side by the wilderness of the Ouvèze River, and with trees on the other, this is a paradise for fauna and flora; from the birds that follow Jean-Luc around all year round, to the bees that he lovingly looks after.
