A Wine That

made us beam from ear to ear when we found it. It's not easy finding mid-week treats that deliver on organic farming, complexity and price point, but this wine (and its white and red siblings) ticks all of the boxes. Looking for a killer rosé that's super easy to drink, but also gives you more flavour than you were banking on? With its heady, herbal scents and subtle spice, we think this is pretty magical.

Where and How?

This comes from organically farmed vines of the three famous Grenache mutations: Blanc, Gris and Noir. The vines grow together in a single vineyard named Finca Trufes.
The grapes were harvested at the same time, destemmed, crushed and macerated together for a day. Only the free run juice is used (the first portion of juice that naturally is released from the berries when the grapes are pressed — deemed to be the highest quality and resulting in a silky texture). The wine then fermented naturally in stainless steel, after which it aged for six months on the fine lees.

The Winemaker: Celler Frisach

Celler Frisach represents a rebirth — not only of a centuries-old estate — but also of the appellation of Terra Alta in Catalonia. Struck by war less than a century ago, the area is undergoing a revival, and brothers Francesc and Joan Ferré are at the helm. The name Frisach is a testament to their great-grandfather; historically their family hads always been grape growers. Like so many others, they began to sell their fruit and stop winemaking in the 20th century. However, this young duo was inspired by the natural wine movement, and having been to oenology school, decided to give winemaking a go themselves. Despite having been trained classically, these wines are all about hands-off winemaking and a lightness of touch, and every year they carry out new experiments to allow their organic fruit to shine in the bottle.
